please be patient, God is not finished with me yet

you may call it corny. i call it life-changing.
you may call it nonsense. i call it purpose.
you may call it madness, utter madness.
but it's when the world thinks i'm utterly mad that i am truly, completely ALIVE.

She quickly scanned the names on the books neatly arranged in front of her, all beginning with A’s. She squinted. The book she was looking for was not on this shelf. She turned towards the next aisle, checking the time on her wristwatch. She looked up and froze in her steps. There he was.

He strode blithely through the door, entering the store like a burst of fresh air. His long, wavy hair bobbed up and down as he walked briskly to the section where the cookbooks were. He picked out a Japanese recipe book resting on a high shelf, leafed through its pages, put it back, reached for another one, and repeated the sequence.

From the other side of the room, she carefully studied him, watching him as he drew books from a shelf, flipped through them, and returned them. She did not know him, but there was something vaguely familiar about him. When she had seen him walk through the entrance of the store, her heart jumped, as if it was telling her that she had met this person before. She could not understand. If she had been acquainted with him before, she should have at least been able to connect him with a filament from her memory, but she could not. And yet there was an invisible hand, tugging at her shoulder, and a silent voice, telling her this guy had been, at one point or another, a part of her life.

She continued skimming the titles of the books lined up in front of her, shrugging off the persistent feeling that had gripped her. When she found the one she wanted, she retrieved it from its resting place and sauntered towards the solitary cashier. While waiting in line, she turned once more to the cookbook section, looking past the other shelves, past other customers, setting her gaze on a guy with his back to her, head lowered. She watched as he carefully replaced the book he had been holding, watched as he heaved a sigh, watched as he suddenly turned in her direction, as though he knew he was being scrutinized.

He caught her eye, and she did not avert her gaze. Their eyes locked, and in that moment, she became certain that she knew him — from another setting, from another occasion, perhaps from another lifetime, but she knew him once, and here they were, in a random place at a random time, apart but together somehow, stangers and yet the closest of friends.

He looked away, and she looked away. And all at once the world resumed its activity, and they were but two people, unfamiliar to each other, shopping for books on that cold Friday afternoon.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Perfect Love

I was the farthest thing from lovely.
But someone loved me.

I was lost.
He showed me the way.

I was afraid.
He took away my fears.

I was unsure.
He filled me with conviction.

I was filthy.
He cleansed me with his blood.

I was a rebel.
He was patient with me.

I was a rogue.
He gave me a chance.

I was a sinner.
He forgave me without a second thought.

I was shameful.
He welcomed me into his family.

I was unworthy.
He didn't care.

I was imperfect.
But someone loved me perfectly.

He even gave his own life
So I could reclaim mine.

Scavenger

I see you every day.
We pass by each other on the streets.
We sit side by side on the train.
We meet in the hallways of the university.

Sometimes we'd catch each other's eye.
Sometimes we'd exchange a few words.
Sometimes we'd even hang out for an hour.

Most of the time, though,
We're just complete strangers,
Going about our own business.

I may not know much about you.
I may not even know you at all.
But I know one thing:
You are on a quest.

Like everyone else on the street,
On the train, and in the university,
You seek happiness.
Like everyone else on the planet,
You search for meaning.
You search for purpose.

Like every breathing, walking human being,
You are on a quest to find that one thing
That will define you.
That will give you substance.
That will complete your existence.

For a long time you have searched,
But you have searched in vain.
I can tell you why.
Because you have been searching
In all the wrong places.

You might be hankering for material wealth and possessions,
Believing it will raise your value as a person.
You might be chasing power and prestige,
Thinking it will give you perfect satisfaction.
You might be aiming to reach the pinnacle of fame,
Believing it will enrich your sense of worth.

You might be bent on cultivating a social life,
Thinking it will provide you with a place where you belong.
You might be investing so much on external beauty,
Thinking it will make you more loved.

You might be reliant on drugs and alcohol,
Believing they are the only way out when the going gets tough.
You might be engrossed in a variety of vices,
Thinking there's nothing better to do with your time.
You might be engulfed by the fires of lust and worldly love,
Believing they will fill the void in your heart.

But at the end of the day
You are wrong,
Always wrong,
Because you seek the wrong things.

You do not realize that there exists Someone
Who can fill all the hollowness in your life,
Who can give you absolute security,
Who can love you perfectly,
Whatever the circumstances.

And all you really have to do is let Him in.
Let Him into your mind,
Let Him into your life,
Let Him into your heart.

He will free your mind of all worries,
He will take your life from glory to glory,
He will fill your heart with unspeakable joy.

He is the answer.
The one-step answer.
The only answer.

Yes, I see you every day.
And every time I see you,
Every time we pass by each other on the streets,
Every time we sit side by side on the train,
Every time we meet in the hallways of the university,
I pray for you.

And I pray for only one thing:
That you will let Him in.

It's the only perfect finale to your lifelong quest.

Scars

Like everyone else,
I have scars.
Scars that reflect the kind of life I used to lead.
Scars of my past.
Scars of sin.

I will always have scars.
But that's okay.
Because scars are merely reminders of wounds that have healed.
My scars remind me of the hold of sin from which I have broken free.
They will always remind me of my victory in Christ.

In time, I will have new scars.
But I remain undaunted.
For new scars will only mean new victories.
They will only be reminders of new struggles
That have been overcome by the grace of God.

So let my scars show,
Let all the world see them,
For they symbolize triumph.
They embody a life that has been changed,
A life that has been freed from the shackles of sin,
A life that is now filled with the Spirit of truth and love.

always
hillsong united

did you rise the sun for me?
or paint a million stars that i might know your majesty?
is your voice upon the wind?
is everything i know marked with my maker's fingerprints?

breathe on me
let me seek your face
ever i will seek you

cause all you are is all i want, always
draw me close in your arms, oh god
i wanna be with you
with you

can i feel you in the rain?
abandon all i am to have you capture me again?
let the earth resound with praise
can you hear as all creation lives to glorify one name?

breathe on me
let me seek your face
ever i will seek you

cause all you are is all i want, always
draw me close in your arms, oh god
i wanna be with you
cause all you are is all i want, always
draw me close in your arms, oh god
i wanna be with you
i wanna be with you, oh god
i wanna be with you
i wanna be with you

jesus
all i wanna do is be with you
i love you lord
i love you lord

ever i will seek you
ever i will seek you
ever i will seek you
ever i will seek you

cause all you are is all i want, always
draw me close in your arms, oh god
i wanna be with you
cause all you are is all i want, always
draw me close in your arms, oh god
